To own and operate a taxidermy business in Ohio you need: 1. Vendor's License - There is no "taxidermy license" BUT you need a Vendor's license. You get these at your County Courthouse. This will require you to collect and pay sales tax. You will run into people, even professional taxidermists, who may tell you otherwise...BUT YOU MUST LEGALLY DO THIS!! Don't get caught trying to skip this step. They will not care that "you didn't think you needed it" or "my buddy said it was unnecessary". The fines are STIFF. 2. You must keep records of the animals you take in to work on. The EASIEST way to do this is to get the TAXIDERMIST, LOCKER PLANT, AND MEAT PROCESSOR RECORDS Form 38/DNR 8812 These are available from your local Wildlife Officer. It's easy to use and covers what you need. 3. If you are going to do Waterfowl you need a Federal Migratory Bird Taxidermy Permit. Go to: link
