I am 15, and im starting my first taxidermy piece this week. Its a whitetail, and im planning on entering it in the Ohio State Taxidermy Championships. I am making it an open mouth, and some people may call me crazy for it being my first deer being so difficult. i was planning on it eating something, like an apple or something, with a branch beside it. its just a simple shoulder mount.
anyways! what division should i be placed in? on the entry forms it states "childern's entries". what exactually is that? and should i sign up under it?
thanks. and please help me. i ned it badly.

Hi Sara. Glad to see your coming to the show. Everybody has the same ? for their first competition what division? To start out I would say Amateur. But I have seen pieces that should go to Professional or Master for their first time out. The higher the division the more you will learn. You could enter into the childrens but you will learn more in Amateur or Professional. It is really up to you but don't get upset if you don't place good if you go in a higher division it is the knowlege you get to improve your work to better your taxidermy work. The better you get the more work you will get in. Competition to me is a great way to learn and improve your work. If you still don't know at the time of the show Me or Heath are the ones who check the mounts in and will be glad to help you out. Looking forwarded to seeing you at the Show.
